Midstream

Roughly half way through is a great time to step back and evaluate: how are we doing? What's going right? What's going wrong? How could we make things better?

For some people, the midpoint can be a time of real turmoil. For others, it is just a good time to reflect and make a few adjustments. Either way, the path forward requires being honest, listening and learning from each other from each other and (most likely) making some sacrifices.

Here are 3 tools you may want to use:

  • Here is a short reflection exercise. A good way to do a mid-stream evaluation would be for each team member to answer these questions on their own and then come together to talk.
  • If team dynamics is something you need to explore, read (or re-read) this short essay on Communities and Teams. Talk with your teammates about where you are in the process of becoming a team, what you think is going right and what you think could be improved.
  • For a broader look at the process of adjustment, look at Making Adjustments. It describes the ups and downs of adjusting to a new place and offers a few ideas and some questions specific to CityLife.

Most of all, don't coast, don't quit and don't settle for just getting by. Often, it is right in the middle of chaos when teams really jell.
