Pursue Christ
We want to "know Christ" in all of life and to "make him know" through everything we do. This kind of integrated life leads to...
- Hearts that are expanded in being loved by God and loving Him...in your work and play, as well as in your growing relationships.
- The qualities and mission of Jesus showing up more and more in every aspect of our lives.
- Growing a little bit more comfortable every day in your own skin, learning to face and embrace both your brokenness and unique God-given contributions for impact.
- Engaging others with compassion and wisdom in their brokenness, dreams and contributions.
You may have learned "the basics" somewhere along the way, but what will these look like in this next chapter of your life? Here are a few ideas you may want to study and some "faith experiments" you may want to try...
- To love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength is the essence of worship. Worship is a 24/7 lifestyle in which we demonstrate our love and adoration toward God through acts of obedience and submission, punctuated with times of celebration together. What is the balance between these two big ideas. i.e. 24/7 worship and times set aside to focus on Christ? What could you try individually or as a team?
- To love one another in all its many forms (all the New Testament's "one another" encouragements) is the foundation for building Biblical community and pursuing Christ together. What would they look like in action?
- To love your neighbor (both believer and unbeliever) in practical ways by applying the "Golden Rule" establishes the principle of service in all we do. This kind of friendship is a basic building block of reaching those without Christ. As a part of becoming "more like Christ," is there one person you could ask God to help you love this week?
To help as you are getting started...
- Use "Getting started (or re-started) with God" to reflect on the disciplines you have already learned: what has worked, what hasn't, what has helped you to foster a deepening relationship with Christ in everyday life, where are you the most aware of God in your everyday life?
- If spending a little time each day in the Bible is not something you've done before, check out A Few Thoughts on Having a Daily Quiet Time. Try it on your own or ask somebody on the team who's done this before to share a few ideas or join you.
As you go through the next 6 months to 2 years, this topic is something you will keep coming back to. During CityLife, your goal is to...
- Discover your rhythm of engaging meaningful, personal spiritual practices (i.e. personal worship, Bible reading, prayer, meditation, service, etc.)
- Find ways to experience the "Great Commandments" personally and as a team so that worship, community and service become primary motivational drives for all that you do.
