Learning through Study

Our experiences on the job, focused on pursuing Christ, among our friends and with our teams are a key part of the learning process. We learn from these experiences primarily through reflection and in conversations with others.

Another part of learning is focused study: an occasional book to read, a lecture or advice from an expert teacher or a focused small group discussion. The Bible is the bedrock of all our study: some structured attention there is almost always life changing.

On the pages tied to the 4 areas of the CityLife  covenant, you will find suggestions for studying that are tied to each of those areas. Before you decide what to pursue, here are a few questions you may want to consider:

  • Why do I want to study this? Is there a particular problem or challenge I'm facing? (The answer, "no, I'm just curious" is fine, but another option is to pursue topics "just-in-time," i.e. as you need them.)
  • Do I want to pursue this on my own or recruit some people to dig into this together? (Again, either way is fine.)
  • When will I know I'm done? (Some personalities need to finish everything; others may be content simply when they feel their question has been answered.)

In addition to the materials tied to the 4 areas of the covenant, there are more materials and more topics listed here on the Materials for Study page.
